Poland Boosts Solar Power Revolution with PLN 400 Million in Household PV Storage Subsidies
Earlier on this month, Poland launched the sixth installment of the Mój Prąd (My Electricity) rebate program, offering PLN 400 million in subsidies for residential photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage, and hot water storage solutions. This program, funded by the European Fund for Infrastructure, Climate, and Environment, underscores Poland’s commitment to transitioning from coal to renewable energy.
Application Requirements
The subsidies are available to net-billing customers with PV systems installed after January 1, 2021, ranging between 2 and 10 kW. For installations before July 31, 2024, there is no requirement for energy storage or hot water systems to qualify for funding. However, systems installed after this date must include energy or hot water storage to be eligible.
All grid-connected PV energy storage installations must declare the amount of storage receiving subsidies to the local operator, while off-grid systems remain ineligible for funding.
Subsidy Details
- The program offers substantial support for household PV systems:
- Up to PLN 6,000 for PV systems without storage
- Up to PLN 7,000 for systems with storage
- Battery energy storage systems can receive up to PLN 16,000 (minimum 2 kWh capacity)
- Hot water storage systems are eligible for up to PLN 5,000 (minimum 20L capacity)
The deadline for applications is December 20, 2024, or until funds are exhausted. These rebate international incentives are part of Poland’s broader renewable energy strategy.
Poland’s Energy Transition
At the beginning of 2024, Urszula Zielińska, Poland’s new Secretary of State for Climate, said that the country is currently considering a date for the final phase-out of coal.
Poland is making strides to reduce its reliance on coal. The Polish think tank Forum Energii forecasts a gradual decline in coal’s share of energy production. By 2025, up to 8 GW of coal capacity will be phased out, with a further 6 GW removed by 2030. By 2035, coal is expected to disappear from Poland’s energy mix entirely, aligning with the government’s long-term renewable energy goals for photovoltaic and renewable energy engineering.
Poland’s Growing PV Market
Poland’s PV market is booming, becoming one of the fastest-growing in the EU. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the country’s installed PV capacity reached 17.05 GW by the end of 2023, making it the fourth-largest PV market in the EU, behind Germany, Spain, and Italy. This rapid growth signals a bright future for photovoltaic new energy.
