Poland secures record €2.3 billion from EU to accelerate green energy transformation
Poland has secured a record-breaking 10 billion Polish zloty (roughly 2.3 billion euros) tranche from the EU’s Modernisation Fund to boost its green energy transformation, the largest sum ever granted from the fund, according to officials.
Announced by Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska and Dorota Zawadzka-Stępniak, President of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOSiGW), the funding will be allocated to critical energy projects aimed at enhancing Poland’s energy efficiency and sustainability.
The funds will support four key initiatives, including 4 billion zlotys for large-scale electricity storage, 2 billion for power grid expansion for high-power charging stations, 2 billion for the purchase of zero-emission vehicles, and 2 billion for the “Energy for Villages” programme, which focuses on renewable energy in rural areas.
Minister Hennig-Kloska said the development was a major step forward in Poland’s energy transition, highlighting its role in boosting energy security, reducing emissions and improving air quality.
The financing is part of broader efforts to transition Poland towards a low-emission economy and increase its use of renewable energy sources.
This latest tranche of funding is said to underscore the growing importance of sustainable energy initiatives in Poland’s future economic development, driven by strategic support from the European Investment Bank and EU climate goals.
