How to Install Rooftop Solar Mounting Kits Step by Step
This installation guide explains how to install Yuens rooftop solar mounting kits step by step on metal roofs with a landscape-oriented solar panel layout.
It is intended to provide a clear installation reference for solar mounting roofs and should always be used together with the approved construction drawings.

Installation Steps
1. Install the Clip Lock Kit
- Prepare all necessary tools and mounting components before starting.
- Mark the positions of all Clip Lock kits according to the construction drawing.
- L2 represents the span length of the Clip Lock kit, which normally equals half the length of the solar panel.
- Ensure all Clip Lock kits are aligned both horizontally and vertically.
- Fix each Clip Lock kit onto the roof sheet and tighten using M8 × 20 hex bolts.
Correct positioning and alignment at this stage are critical for the stability of the solar panel mounting brackets.
2. Install the rails
(Connect the rails with rail splice if the rails are not long enough, otherwise skip this step)
- Insert half of the rail splice into the first rail and fix it with one M8 × 12 hex bolt.
- Insert the other half into the second rail.
- Align both rails and secure them together with one M8 × 12 hex bolt.
- Fix the rail onto the Clip Lock kits using Z-nuts (The Z-nuts are pre-assembled on the Clip Lock kits and do not require separate installation.)
This step completes the basic structure of the solar mounting roof.
3. Install the Solar Panels
- It is recommended to start panel installation from one side at the bottom.
- Each mid clamp must be equipped with one grounding washer.
- The two end clamps of each array or line must be equipped with two grounding lugs.
Proper grounding is essential for the safety and long-term performance of the rooftop solar installation.

- All dimensions must strictly follow the construction drawing.

2. Notes on Stainless Steel Fasteners
Stainless steel fasteners have excellent ductility, which differs significantly from carbon steel.
Improper installation may cause the bolt and nut to seize, commonly known as “lock-up” or “dead lock”, making disassembly impossible.
Reducing the Friction Coefficient
To avoid lock-up:
Ensure the thread surfaces are clean and free of dust or debris. Apply water wax or lubricant (such as butter or 40# machine oil) to the thread surface before installation.
Correct Installation Practices
- Ensure the bolt is perpendicular to the thread axis during tightening.
- Apply force evenly and do not exceed the specified tightening torque.
- Use a torque wrench or socket spanner whenever possible. Avoid using monkey wrenches or electric wrenches.
- If using an electric wrench, keep the rotational speed as low as possible.
- Avoid rapid tightening that may cause temperature rise and lock-up.
Recommended tightening torque for A2-70 stainless steel bolts:
- M8 bolt: 11 ± 1 N·m
- M10 bolt: 20 ± 1 N·m
- M12 bolt: 35 ± 1 N·m
