How to install solar panels on standing seam roof?
Installing solar panels on standing seam roof systems can be straightforward with the Yuens RP-4 Standing Seam Metal Roof Mounting System. This system features innovative rail technology, standard components, and highly pre-assembled clamps, which simplify the installation process while providing great flexibility.
When integrating metal roof and solar panels, it’s crucial to ensure that all installation steps are followed carefully. This guide will walk you through the essential details to achieve a secure and efficient setup. Before beginning, please read the entire manual thoroughly to ensure a successful installation of your solar panels on metal roof structures. Let’s get started!

Installation steps
- Install the clip lock kit
Prepare all the needed tools and related products before installation, Mark positions of all the clip lock kit according to the construction drawing. L1 normally equals half-length of solar panel. L2 equals the span length of clip lock kit, which is same as the construction drawing. Please make sure that all the clip lock kits be aligned horizontally and vertically. Then fix the clip lock kit on the metal roof sheet by fastening the M8 hex bolt.
- Install the rails
(Connect the rails with rail splice if the rails are not long enough, otherwise skip this step) Insert the rail splice half into Rail A and then fix it with 4pcs self-tapping screws. Then insert the other half of rail splice into Rail B, match them together and then fix them with 4pcs self-tapping screws as well. Then two rails are connected.
Fixing the rail on the clip lock kit and fastening the T-bolt and nut.
- Install the solar panels
Suggest to start the installation from left to right. Each mid clamp needs to be equipped with one grounding washer. Two end clamps of each array/line need to be equipped with two grounding lugs.
Installation notes
1. Dimensional considerations
All dimensions should follow the construction drawings. This guide serves as a general overview of the installation process and is not a substitute for detailed construction plans.
Stainless steel material is quite different from carbon steel with its excellent ductility. If not used correctly, stainless steel bolts and nuts can become difficult to unscrew after tightening, that is a phenomenon known as “lock-up”. Methods to avoid lock-up are as follows:
(1) Reducing friction coefficient
· Make sure the thread surfaces are clean and free from dust or clutters.
· It’s recommended to apply a lubricant or water wax during installation (such as butter or 40#machine oil).
(2) Using correct operation method
· The bolt must be perpendicular to the axis of thread when screwing. Avoid tilting the bolt.
· Apply force evenly when tightening, ensuring the torque does not exceed the specified secure torque value.
· Use a torque wrench or socket spanner instead of a monkey wrench or electric wrench as far as possible.
· If using an electric wrench, Adjust the rotational speed as low as possible.
· Avoid high temperature. To avoid lock-up which is caused by sharply increasing temperature, do not rotate rapidly (such as using electric wrench).
(3) Allowable Tightening Torque for A2-70 Stainless Steel Bolts
M8 bolt: 11 ± 1N * m;
M10 bolt: 20 ± 1 N * m;
M12 bolt: 35 ± 1 N * m.
